Attention Teachers

Since 1972, the Stratford-Perth Archives has promoted  interest in history and the past by using hands-on activities for students at both the elementary and secondary school levels.  By examining the past, we can better understand the present and prepare for the future.

We are constantly seeking to expand our outreach into school communities and to help teachers make use of the resources here at the Archives.

If there is something that you are interested in that is not listed here, it may be possible for us to develop something for your class.

Archives staff are happy to assist student researchers but appointments are recommended for group visits. 

Programs that have been done include:

• Classes on paper-making

• Oral and video history projects matching secondary students with seniors in Stratford and Listowel

• Slide presentations on the history of Stratford through its buildings and architecture

• Presentations to school classes on paper conservation

• Classes on how to research your family history

• Quality work placements for secondary co-operative education students

• Learning kits such as Local History and Famous People of Perth County

We Can Offer:

• Speakers on many aspects of local history

• Assistance to teachers in designing practical research projects

• Guided walking tours of Stratford's downtown

• Hands-on skill packages, eg. how to read historical photos and documents, how to document information in the Archives

• Assistance with celebrating Heritage Week or similar events

• Co-operative Education placements with a focus on researching and writing articles for publication, eg. The Reflections column in the Beacon Herald

• Primary documents relevant to a wide variety of topics and subject areas, eg. History, Geography, Family Studies, Visual Arts, English

Please note that there are no fees for using any of these resources.
